Lakers destroyed the Grizzlies last night. I'm not surprised by that. I was surprised by how terrible the attendance was. If it weren't for the Kobe Bryant jerseys there, you would've thought the Grizz were playing the Hawks. It'll be interesting to see how many show up to see LeBron and Cleveland next Tuesday. I'm thoroughly convinced after last nights attendance that it doesn't matter who comes to town now. This city has given up on the Grizzlies.
One thing I always hear and I'm starting to hate it is: "Memphis is still a young NBA city and we just don't fully understand the NBA yet."
I think Memphis understands this much about the NBA (especially after going 0 for 12 3 straight years in the playoffs): you need a superstar to compete at a high level in the playoffs. This team, as we all know, doesn't have anyone close to that. Until this team gets one, it isn't gonna happen here. There will be changes that may get a few more in the crowd here and there (trading Pau would help), but until Chris Wallace finds a way to get a superstar, there's no chance of people going back to that arena.
Speaking of no chance....
